Water-Only Waterjet Cutting FAQ's About Waterjet & Laser Cutting
About Water-Only Cutting:
Another method for processing material is our water-only waterjet, also known as "pure waterjet". Here you have a replication of abrasive waterjet cutting but without the abrasives. This form of waterjet cutting allows for the rapid production of parts from soft materials.
The orifices in water-only waterjet cutting can range from diameters of 0.004” up to 0.010”, the difference between them is the pressure desired for processing a specific material. The smaller the diameter, the less pressure is being applied. The orifice itself is usually composed of one of three types of materials; diamond, ruby or sapphire. The most common of these is sapphire; however the longest lasting orifice is diamond.

Benefits of Water-Only:
Increased Detail Ability No Heat Cutting Fast Processing Ability to Process Soft Materials Low Cutting Power

The no heat cutting starts when the design from the customer goes to our sales team and to our programmers who produce a CAM file readable to the waterjet machinery. From this CAM program, the exact replication of the customer design is then produced via waterjet. The advantage of using water-only waterjet is the visible cleanliness presented on the finished product. On porous materials, it’s easy for abrasive to get stuck in and on the material and leave a dirty appearance. However, with our water-only machinery, there are no abrasives, thus the parts leave with the customer with a much cleaner finish.
