6061 Aluminum Martial Arts Weapons

A project that was recently cut on the waterjet, were the blades seen here, used for martial arts competitions. The blades are made of .090" thick 6061 aluminum, and were processed using abrasive waterjet cutting.

This was a remarkable project since each blade needed to be exactly the same as all the others. There were 400 parts manufactured, each one to the precise specifications that the customer set. The pieces required extreme care as well, as the customer was going to polish each blade to a mirror finish when the parts were manufactured. Because of this, we started quality right from the beginning by only ordering and using; high quality material.

From there, the operators handled the material very carefully as well, as the desired finish could not be put on any parts with scratches or dents. The finished pieces needed to be perfect, with no exceptions.

When the project was finished, our production floor looked like a combat zone with martial arts blades all over. Luckily the customer picked them up before the sales team got too crazy. I guess we'll have to leave these stunts to the customer.
