Fedtech Gets a Start on Art
Talented sculptural artists from Stockholm, Wisconsin, Andrea Myklebust and Stanton Sears, have recently completed a beautiful landscape of towers in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. The 22 foot towers were constructed from Indiana limestone, stainless steel, and bronze, commissioned by the Arts and Science Council.
The custom cut towers also featured LED fixtures that provided an impressive display of nighttime color-changing illumination, a lighting design by LightSHOW of Pasadena, California. The towers themselves are four separate limestone and steel columns artistically carved with imagery drawn from the textile traditions from citizens of the area in Pre-Columbian times to present.
Andrea and Stanton came to Fedtech, seeking help with completing their masterpiece. To achieve the precise specifications on their designs for the tops of the towers, laser cutting was the best option available. Of course, we're able to do waterjet art cutting at our facility as well, but by laser cutting the parts at that particular time, the pair was able to receive a shorter turnaround time and with the material being as thin as it was, laser cutting also proved to be a great cutting method for this particular project as well. Fedtech was able to create Andrea and Stanton's designs by using CNC laser cutting to process the seven gage 304 stainless steel. When the project was complete, Andrea and Stanton were able to assemble and complete their exquisite work of art.
