3" 4340 Alloy Waterjet Cut Gears

A fun project we recently finished used abrasive waterjet cutting to process an extremely tough material. The goal here was to process the 3" thick 4340 alloy heat treated to a 40 rockwell. The 2-axis cutting job was a challenge because the material was extremely hard when we received it, due to being heat treated.

However, we worked around that disadvantage and removed the sections from the gear that the customer wanted removed, by using waterjet to cut through the hardened material. The gears were then complete, and the customer was very satisfied with the finished product.

It's good to have difficult projects like this to keep our engineers sharp with their skills. Huge alloy heat treated gears were the perfect project for Fedtech to do so, and from this tough project we learned there really isn't much that we can't do with waterjet cutting! 3" 4340 Alloy Gears Waterjet Cutting 3-Axis Cutting
